6 Summer Solutions for Preventing Discomfort

By Brandi Goodman

Summer is a time of joy and fun for lots of people. That doesn't mean it is without drawbacks, though. There are many ways you can become uncomfortable and sore during the summertime. With some summer solutions for preventing discomfort, you can hopefully avoid them and keep the season sizzling.

Wear Sunscreen

Sunburned skin is one of the biggest troubles of the summer. You stay out too long in the sun and get red, burning skin that bothers you for days. Make sure to wear sunscreen and you can help yourself avoid this problem. Don't forget you'll need to reapply it every couple of hours as well -- especially if you're sweating a lot or spending time in water.

Stretch Before Activities

You may be spending your summer bike riding, taking lots of walks, heading out on the water, swimming, and more. All of these physical activities can leave you sore and hurting, especially if you aren't stretching before you start them. You need to stretch out your body well before any activities so you can avoid the pain that comes from being too stiff and inflexible.

Stay Hydrated

Failing to drink enough water in the day can also lead to pain. Your body gets dehydrated and starts hurting quickly while you're continuing to stay in the sun and engage in physical activities. Make sure to stay hydrated so you can avoid the problems that come along with inadequate water intake.

Stay Indoors on Hot or High-Pollen Days

You can use an app or website to track the days when pollen is at its highest. You can also see when the UV rays are worst. Avoid being outdoors at the times when levels are in the red so you can prevent yourself from being affected by these occurrences. Strong UV rays are more likely to burn your skin and harm your body. Pollen can bring up your allergies and make you feel uncomfortable.

Follow Safety Protocols

People tend to get hurt in the summer when they're not following the proper protocols. Say you're on a boat ride. Life jackets are necessary when the boat is on the move. There are also rules at the pool for diving, rules at the beach when the waves are too high and currents are strong, and other protocols to follow for various activities. Always follow the safety restrictions so you can avoid danger.

Stick to Your Sleep Schedule

It may seem fun to stay up late and get all the activities in that you can, but you'll end up hurting when you overdo it. You need to stick to your sleep schedule and get the rest your body needs to recover from all the activities you're engaging in.

A pain-free summer is possible as long as you know how to avoid the many problems that can stem from the summertime. Keep these tips in mind and you'll experience an enjoyable summer free from discomfort and full of fun.
