Morning Habits That Boost Mental Health
By Genevieve Cunningham
The morning is an important time of the day. Some people love it, some people hate it. But there's no denying its importance in the way the rest of our day runs. If we start the day out in an unhealthy way, the rest of the day is likely to follow. And this is especially true when it comes to our mental wellness. If we're in a rush, in a panic, or incredibly stressed out, the rest of the day will likely follow suit. So what can you do to ensure better mental health in your life? It may be a good idea to take a look at your morning habits. If you would like to boost your mental health on a daily basis, take a look at these mental health habits to get your day started off right.
The morning, in most places, is a naturally quiet time anyway. Why not take advantage of this time to get in a little quiet time for yourself? Wake up just a few minutes earlier than anyone else in your house and enjoy some quiet time with a book, a hot drink, or just with yourself. This can help keep you calm and centered before the hustle and bustle of the day begins.
You are what you eat. If you’re eating junk for breakfast, you're probably going to feel a bit like junk for the rest of the day. And this is definitely not good for your mental health. Instead of reaching for donuts or a pop-tart, plan a healthy and well balanced breakfast for yourself. Sit, take your time, and enjoy it. This helps you fill your body with essential vitamins and nutrients, and it can also ease you into your day slowly and gently for a smoother transition.
An Early Wake Up
Waking up early is a must for an easy morning and better mental health. If you wake up late, you will be in a rush, won't have time for a good breakfast or any alone time, will have to rush through your routines, and will feel flustered and frustrated. And it's completely unnecessary to feel this way when all you have to do is get up! Start with an earlier wake up time, and you will likely notice a significant improvement in your overall mental health (and your day!).
A good morning can change the rest of the day! And good mental health is dependent on good days and good habits. Use these tips to start your mornings off right, and you'll develop healthy habits that boost mental and physical health for years to come.
