Get Moving Every Day With These Easy Tips
By Genevieve Cunningham
You have to move your body. Many people don't like to hear that, and they certainly don't like to think about actually doing it. Sitting in front of the TV or playing on the computer sounds like so much more fun, or at the very least, a lot easier! But movement is so very important. It's necessary, and for the vast majority of us, getting more should be at the top of our priority lists. But how do we do that? We're busier than ever before, and it's hard to find the time and motivation to squeeze in a workout. If you need to get more movement, take a look at these small ways to get moving without much extra effort or time.
Set an Alarm
If you have trouble remembering to move, set an alarm on your phone. When the alarm goes off, take a walk around the office or walk to your own kitchen and back if you're at home. Then set another alarm to do the same thing in a few hours. You may be surprised at how quickly these little movements add up.
Put Important Things Across the Room
If you really want to move, just put your phone across the room. Don't put it on your nightstand or within easy reach. Every time it chimes, you'll have to get up and travel the distance of your room to check it. In fact, put everything important across the room. Keep the alarm clock across the room along with your laptop. If you access it often, keep it away from you in order to make yourself move.
Park at the Back
We're all guilty of circling the parking lot waiting for a spot to open up in the front. But if you need movement, stop this bad habit. Instead, just park at the back and walk. It doesn't take much effort, it's easier to find a spot, and it helps you get more movement on a regular basis. Win-win all the way around.
Take the Stairs
Taking the stairs isn't always possible, but when it is, just do it! You'll get more movement and work the lower half of your body in a big way. If it's only a couple of stories, arrive slightly early and get in those steps. Anytime that this is an option, you'll be making a great choice by skipping the elevator.
Go Outside
It's really hard to go outside and avoid movement. If you're not moving as much as you'd like, make getting outside the goal. But don't go outside and find a chair and a drink. Just go to the park, step out in your backyard, or go outdoors on your lunch break. Changing your environment can change your motivation and finally help you get active.
It's time. No matter where you are in your life, it's time to get moving. Use these easy tips to increase your activity, and enjoy better health in no time at all.
