3 Tips for Boosting Your Morning Mood

By Genevieve Cunningham

For most people, the mornings are tough. We're groggy and irritable. We don't want to get up and get moving, and we let that fact be known. But what if we could make the mornings enjoyable? What if we had good moods and positive attitudes first thing? It could totally change our entire day! And luckily, it's actually possible to feel good in the morning. If you would like to start your day off on the right foot, take a look at these ways to boost your morning mood starting today.

Get More Sleep

The easiest and most obvious way to boost your mood in the morning is to get more sleep. When we're tired, we're irritable. When we're lacking this essential part of life, we feel grumpy and angry. If you want to be in a good mood in the morning, go to bed earlier. It may take a few days to really get caught up with your sleep, but once you're well rested, you may notice that your mood is significantly improved when you open your eyes in the morning.

Find a Healthy Habit

We often hate the mornings because we have to get out of our warm beds and go to work. But if we have something to look forward to in the mornings, then it's easier. If you don't have anything in the morning, create a healthy habit for yourself that you actually look forward to. Maybe it's a quick yoga session with just you, your mat, and YouTube. Maybe it's warm coffee on the porch with a light breeze and the sunrise. Maybe it's reading a chapter of your book before you start your day. There are so many things that you can do in the morning to create a better day. Choose what works for you, and then do it.

Skip the Screen

We're so addicted to screens, most of us reach for the phone first thing in the morning. Heaven forbid we miss something over the night, right? But this is really bad for our health and even worse for our moods. If you can break the habit, you'll be much better off. Instead, reach for a book or write in a journal. Do almost anything except start your day with a screen. Breaking this habit could lead to fewer headaches, better eye health, and significantly better moods every day. Though this is tough, it's worth it to give it a try.

It's possible to start your day off in a better mood. It's completely possible. The key is to create better habits that support your morning. Use these tips to turn your mornings into a positive experience, and you may find that your mood and health are better all day long.
