Is Your Job Killing Your Back? Tips for Spinal Health For the Always Busy
Most people will complain of back pain at least once in their lifetime. As we get older, so do our spines, and with that age comes a lot of wear and tear, and eventually a bit of tension and pain. Of course, our lifestyles also contribute to this pain. One place that generally causes a little back pain is work! Our jobs, just by the nature of them, tend to lead to a bit of back pain. If you’ve never complained of back pain caused by work, count yourself lucky! For the rest of us, take a look at these tips for protecting the health of your spine while on the clock.
Exercise Outside of Work
This is not technically at work, but it will really provide some support to the area at all times of day. Regular exercise helps provide strength, flexibility, and general support to the entire body. If you want to be pain free, set up a regular routine and stick with it. You don’t have to do it every day, but at least 4 times a week is best for the greatest results.
Ergonomic Work Station
This is not possible for everyone, but if it is for you, then make sure to make your work station ergonomic. What does this mean? Basically, it means set it up for the most efficient and comfortable for your body. This includes special shaped desks and chairs, technology that rests at an easy and comfortable height, and other minor changes that can make a big difference. If you don’t know where to start, just do a quick internet search for ergonomic offices to get you started.
Change Positions
Some people sit all day, others stand all day, and some get a little bit more movement. To keep your back healthy, try to get in at least a little movement throughout the day. If you sit all day, make a few extra trips to the bathroom or outside or get some movement. If you are on your feet all day, use your breaks to sit down. Changing your position and giving your body a chance to relax is important to keep it healthy and pain free.
Chiropractic Care
This is another that you won’t do at work, but it will make a huge dent in the health of your spine and body. Regular chiropractic care may lead to a properly aligned spine, which then leads to less pain and even greater productivity. When the spine is misaligned, it can cause pain, trouble concentrating, and other negative symptoms. Getting care on a consistent basis eliminates these misalignments, and therefore helps with the pain and stress that comes from regular wear and tear.
