Fashion Vs. Back Pain - Avoid These Three Styles

Womens' magazines tell women what fashions to buy and wear to look like their favorite celebrity. While these fashions may make you look your best now, they may not be doing you any favors in the future. Many of today’s hottest fashion trends can wreak havoc on your back. Avoid these fashions if you want to stay pain-free in the future.

High Platform Heels: Majority of women love high heels because they create a taller, leaner silhouette. However, no matter how stylish the heel is, they force the foot into an unnatural position. Not only does prolonged wear of high heels affect your feet, but it also puts pressure on your back. High heels also force the body into an unbalanced position. This alters how a woman stands, which can affect her posture. Bad posture leads to back problems. Are high heels really worth the pain later?

Oversized Bags: It seems as if today’s woman is supposed to carry around a stylish bag with her whole bedroom in it. While it is good to be prepared, it is bad to carry around a purse that is oversized and overweight. Put your purse on a diet and only carry what is essential. Also, find bags with thicker straps. Carrying a heavy purse on one side will cause misalignments, which will then cause pain. Keep your bag lighter than 10% of your weight. If you have to haul around a laptop, carry it with the weight balanced in both arms instead of on your shoulder.

Tight Clothes: Tight clothes are another problem to look out for. Whether you are wearing tight clothes to be fashionable or because you need to lose a few pounds, they are causing more harm than good. Tight clothing is too restrictive and can prevent a person from moving comfortably, which results in poor posture and subluxations of the spine.

Don’t let fashion designers tell you what to wear. The alignment and health of your body is far more important. Plus, your high heels will not look fashionable in a decade when you are hunched over from back and hip pain.
