Try Challenging Activities for Better Health

By Tom Herrin

A lot of the time when people feel that exercise is not for them, it is because they find it boring. While there are those who do extremely well with plain exercise programs, others simply can't get into it.  They find traditional exercise to be something that doesn't serve well to motivate them.  For these individuals, there are actually all kinds of varied activities that can help provide excitement and higher levels of interest.  All they have to do is look for them, and it is possible to be pretty creative with what you do.

Try the Batting Cages

If you ever played baseball or softball, you may have spent some time in the batting cages.  You probably have not given it much thought since.  It can be an enjoyable way to spend a little time as you try to do some hitting.  It does allow you to get some exercise as you do it, but it will be generally mild.  It will be worthwhile though if you begin to set some goals for yourself and work toward them.  It won't provide highly aggressive exercise, but it can be a start.

Swimming Is a Good Lifetime Activity

You may think of swimming as something you do in the summer only.  It can be great as part of a regular exercise routine.  With the availability of so many indoor pools, you can swim as often as you like.  It is good for endurance and movement in general.  Many people swim as they try to recover from injuries since the water helps to support some of the weight of the body and keeps stress low.  Many people swim until they are well into their 80s and 90s, so age is not much of a factor.  If you want daily exercise at a moderate level, this may meet your needs.

Climb Some Rocks

If you have never been rock climbing, you have missed something.  It should not be confused with mountain climbing as it is not necessarily at great heights.  Many parks and natural areas have places you can climb, and they may offer lessons and rent equipment.  It can be a fun experience, and you may find yourself looking for more places to do it.  You will be using a variety of muscles in your body, but you will not be lifting yourself up all alone.  You will be using ropes and pulleys, so it is easier than it may sound.  You will likely enjoy the experience.
