Treat Your Neck Pain Naturally
Like an estimated 75 percent of Americans, I have been suffering with neck pain more than half my life. The doctors attribute it to my scoliosis, but I am not entirely sure that is the only source. I have tried everything to alleviate the pain, from stretching to acupuncture to eventually pain medications. None of those treatments helped treat the pain, they merely masked the aching in that moment, but it always came back. I disliked the pain medications due to the fatigue and nausea it gave me, so I couldn’t take it regularly. Even when I could stomach the meds, within hours the pain was right back where it started. I needed a treatment that would help me function throughout the day, as well as actually fix the ailment. That was when I heard about chiropractic- an all-natural, medication-free treatment that actually works toward treated the problem, not just covering up the pain.
Most people with neck pain are prescribed narcotic pain medications that can become addictive, dangerous and ineffective. Many patients consume these pain pills because they are prescribed by their medical doctor, not knowing that there is a natural and safe treatment out there to treat their pain.
A study in The Annals of Internal Medicine focused on evaluating alternative therapies for neck pain, including chiropractic. The patients where divided into three groups labeled as those who received chiropractic treatment, pain meds, and at home exercises. The study lasted 12 weeks. The group given the pain medications scored the lowest in improved pain levels, where those who did exercises and chiropractic got the most benefits. Over half of those who underwent chiropractic care reported at 75 percent improvement in pain.
There were also long term benefits with those who received chiropractic adjustments. It was reported that 53 percent of those in the chiropractic group maintained their reduced pain levels. Those who were given pain meds had to actually increase their dosage to maintain their pain level. This is potentially dangerous due to the mental and physical side effects, such as addiction and gastrointestinal problems.
If you are suffering from neck pain, it might be safer to look into the natural, low-risk treatment of chiropractic. Chiropractic does not require any medications, completely ruling out the risk of any addiction. It also aims to fix the problems, not just treat the symptoms.
