Unavoidable Causes of Back Pain
By Genevieve Cunningham
Back pain is super common among adults. Chances are good that it has already happened to you, and if it hasn’t, it’s most likely in your future. Sometimes, back pain occurs because of the choices we make. You wanted to play contact sports? Yeah, your back might hurt afterward. But other times back pain arises for reasons that are completely out of our control. Take a look at these unfortunate reasons you may have back pain, followed by some tips for getting it under control.
You Have to Sit All Day
If you’re at home binging the newest season of "Orange is the New Black" or "The Walking Dead," then the fault of this back pain is yours. But if you’re at work, and your work requires sitting, there may be little you can do to avoid it. Too much sitting, especially when done with poor posture, can be incredibly hard on the back. Take breaks when you can and watch your posture to negate these negative benefits as much as possible.
You Have Poor Sleeping Habits
If you’re on your phone all night, then this is again your fault. But in a lot of situations, we have no idea what happens once our eyes close. We may sleep in a horrible position, which causes back pain or neck stiffness. And since we’re basically unconscious, there’s little we can do to correct it. Do your best to keep supportive pillows on your bed, and try to fall asleep in a back friendly position to help fight off the effects of poor sleep on the spine.
You’re Getting Older
This is definitely not your fault. In fact, it’s a great problem to have! But the aging process often brings some serious back pain. What can you do about it? Keep yourself in shape as much as you can. Keep up an exercise routine, and watch your diet. Stay active and mobile. The more you keep moving and the more active you are, the less likely you are to grow stiff and sore from inactivity.
How Can You Manage Back Pain?
No matter the cause of your back pain, chiropractic care is a great option for beating it and staying healthy. Chiropractors will focus on the spine. They’ll look for misalignments of the vertebrae of the spine, correct them using spinal manipulation, and leave you feeling better than ever. Getting regular care is one of the best ways to negate the bad effects of these unavoidable bad habits that are causing that stubborn pain in the back.
