4 Ways to Bring Healthy and Nourishing Lunches to Work

Bringing your lunch to work can be much healthier than eating out at fast food joints or restaurants, especially since a single meal out can cost you over 1,000 calories. However, that does not mean you need to settle for sad and soggy sandwiches. Instead, here are a few tips on how to pack nourishing lunches.

Start With Avocados

If you don’t have a lot of time on your hand, then avocados are the perfect solution. An avocado comes with its own shell, so you don’t have to worry about packing it in its own container. Just throw an avocado in your bag with whole grain bread or with a small container of rice. When lunch time rolls around, simple mash your avocado and add to your bread or rice.

Toast Can Work

Most offices come equipped with a toaster oven. If yours does, take advantage of it by making elevated toast for lunch. Simply add your dinner leftovers on top of a piece of toast and heat it up for a simple play on a crostini. You can also just toast your bread with cheese for a delicious comfort food that takes hardly any time at all.

Add a Warm Element

One of the things many people hate about bringing their own lunch to work is that they are not a fan of cold lunches. Try enjoying a warm lunch several times a week to change things up. Bring a baked potato and reheat it in the toaster oven with cheese for an easy meal. You can also warm up goat cheese and your vinaigrette before pouring it on your salad for an extra touch.

Stick With Salads

Salads are the perfect foods to bring for lunch for many different reasons. They are easy to transport and they can be made from last night’s leftovers. Why not make a delicious salad out of leftover grilled meat and roasted vegetables? Throw your Spanish rice and carnitas from dinner into your salad and then pack salsa on the side for a dressing. For a better way to pack your salad, try researching layered salads in mason jars. Layering your salads in mason jars keeps them from getting soggy.

When it comes to packing your lunch, steer clear of boring and sad lunches. You don’t want your ham sandwich to push you to the drive-thru lane. Instead, pack meals that nourish and that are full of healthy ingredients to keep you satisfied until dinner.
