Improve Your Posture With Chiropractic Care
By Stepy Kamei
Cute shoes, dark chocolate, and good posture: What do these three things have in common? We all want them -- and we all deserve them! Shoes and chocolate are easy enough to obtain, but good posture is a different issue. You probably remember being told as a kid to sit up straight and have good manners -- but do you know that having good posture is incredibly beneficial to your health?
Read on to learn more about how chiropractic care can help you gain and maintain the posture your body needs to thrive.
What is Good Posture?
Do you ever feel yourself hunching over in your desk chair, or on your couch at home at the end of a long day? Your body may be doing this due to poor postural habits, and it's not doing your muscles or joints any favors in the long run. Having the right posture is something we owe to our aptly-named postural muscles. These muscles serve to keep our joints, bones, and ligaments from getting stressed, strained, or restricted in any way.
Unfortunately, many of us tire out these muscles from the wear and tear of everyday life. Over time, this can cause poor spinal health. A quick test can determine if you're at risk for poor spinal health: Stand in front of a flat wall, with the backs of your feet touching the wall. Only your feet, lower back, shoulders, and head should be touching the wall. If this doesn't match when you perform the test, your spinal column may be out of alignment.
How Does Proper Posture Benefit Your Health?
When your posture is poor, you may feel ripple effects throughout your entire body. Poor posture can lead to spinal column fatigue and joint dysfunction. This can translate to all kinds of aches and pains felt throughout the body. Inflammation in the muscles can also occur, and in time, this can even reduce the function of your immune system.
How Can Chiropractic Care Help?
The good news is that regularly caring for your posture and spinal health can keep many of the aforementioned health issues at bay. There are some ways you can accomplish this yourself, by performing the posture test and buying ergonomic furniture for your home and office. Additionally, chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic can help.
At The Joint Chiropractic, we strive to work with you to help maximize the well-being of your body. Our chiropractors use safe and gentle manual manipulation techniques in order to bring the spinal column back into alignment.
