Don't Waste Your Time on These Exercises

Whether you love exercise or not, you don’t want to waste your precious time in the gym doing moves that are pointless. Who doesn’t want to get the results they deserve for all of the hard work they put in? Here are several exercises at the gym you should avoid because they aren’t helping your fitness level.

Warming Up on a Stationary Bike

Have you ever hoped onto a stationary bike and saw that the machine has an automatic five minute warm up? This warm up is quite pointless, since it is not enough to get your heartrate in the right zone. Of course, if you are older or if you are exercising with pain, this warm up may be a better idea since it is so gentle. However, for everyone else, a better warm up will consist of getting your heart rate up in less time. Try doing jumping jacks and squats or just running in place for a more effective warm up.

Leg Machines

Doing several reps on a leg machine press will not get you the sculpted legs and buns that you are after. This is because the machine only works one aspect of your leg at a time. More natural moves, like a squat engage all of the muscles at once, making it a more effective way to tone up.

Weighted Side Bends

This move is a favorite among women. It consists of holding a dumbbell on one side of your body and crunching to that side over and over again. The problem with this move is that it is only working the external obliques. The heavier weight you use, the more pronounced you will make this muscle, which may result in your stomach area looking bigger. It is better to do ab moves that work all of the muscles at once. Planks with a twist and bicycles work the obliques and the muscles underneath so that you get toned without looking bulky.

Hip Adduction Machine

This is another machine that many will flock to at the gym, but one that does little to give you the fitness results you want. Not only is this machine embarrassing to do (since you are opening your legs wide and closing them), but the glutes cannot be fully engaged while sitting down. Lunges and squats will provide much better results and put you in less of an awkward position in a crowded gym.
