How to Fat-Proof Your Vacation

Summer is just around the corner, and your planned vacation may be calling your name. Traveling and vacationing are a lot of fun, but many times it can be easy to come back to a noticeable gain on the scale and tighter pants. Whether you are planning to travel for work or for pleasure this spring and summer season, remember these tips so that you can stick to your health goals, no matter where you go.

How to Exercise While Away

If your hotel has a mini-gym, take full advantage of it. If not, you can still get in a great workout in your hotel room. Just play some of your favorite tunes on your phone and do sets of pushups, squats, lunges, burpees, crunches, and planks. You can also find several free workouts on Youtube that will help you burn calories in a tight space. Not feeling motivated to exercise while on vacation? Give yourself a reward allowance for every workout you complete, and then treat yourself to a mini-shopping trip.

Hit the Grocery Store Once You Get There

Once you get to your destination, make a stop at the grocery store. Stock up on nuts, fruit, and water, which are easy to keep in your room. If your room also has a mini-fridge, take advantage of it. The more meals you can prepare and eat at your hotel means the more calories and money you will save on eating out.

Pack Your Vitamins and Protein Powder

Pack your vitamins and individual bags of protein powder. This way you can have a healthy meal anytime. Many things can happen during travel, for example, a delayed flight. Having easy access to your protein powder means that you can make a protein shake rather than ordering fast food.

Stay Hydrated

It is extremely important to stay hydrated while you travel. Being well hydrated will help you beat jet lag and any bloat from sitting on a long flight or car ride. Also, restaurant food typically contains more sodium, so the extra water will help flush it out.

Avoid Carbs When Eating Out

You can eat healthier at almost any restaurant – just avoid the carbs. This means that if you order a burger, ask for it bunless or wrapped in lettuce. At a Mexican restaurant, order fajitas and enjoy them without the tortillas. This will save you unnecessary calories and keep your pants from getting too tight by the end of your vacation.

Vacation time is meant to be enjoyed, but no one enjoys their time away if they are bloated or have tight pants. The above tips will help you enjoy your vacation while still keeping your healthy goals in line.
