The Benefits of Soaking in the Sun
For years, people have been using the sun for a number of benefits. We instinctively know that the sun is important to our health. This is so ingrained in us that we even resorted to using the fake sun, aka the tanning bed. While we now know that the tanning bed is not healthy for our bodies, we still crave that sunlight. If you do it in a healthy way, the sun can bring a lot of good into your life. Check out these great reasons to get out and get some much needed Vitamin D.
Boosts Moods and Fights Depression
When my brother lived in Washington for a couple of years, he missed the sun. Upon return, he told us that up there, tanning beds were sometimes called happy beds. Why? Because without sun, your mood naturally takes a nose dive. In order to keep yourself happy and healthy, find time to get in that sun. This is especially true if you are prone to depression. Finding some time for the rays of the sun can help fight off the blues and keep your mental health in good shape.
Promotes Bone Health
One of the biggest signs of a Vitamin D deficiency is bone pain. You know the kind...it’s the pain that feels like it radiates from the very center of your arms and legs. It aches, and it’s extremely difficult to get rid of. If this is you, it might be time to get some sun. The sun is one of the largest places that we get Vitamin D. It is not naturally found in very many foods, so that time in the sun is imperative. If you find yourself achey for no apparent reason, get out and see if the light helps.
Boosts the Immune System
Vitamin D also helps to boost the immune system. Maybe that’s why we tend to get sick more often in the winter. There’s not enough sun to go around. To help your body fight disease, spend some time outdoors. Your immune system needs all the help it can get, and if all it takes is spending some time in the sun, you’re really in a win-win situation. If getting in the sun is completely impossible, then try Vitamin D supplements to give your health a little boost.
The sun is not the enemy. If utilized correctly, it can actually improve your health and make you feel better than ever. Pop on some sunscreen, some comfy clothes, and spend some time in the great outdoors to see some great benefits and to keep yourself healthy and strong.
