Stress Can Lead To Neck Pain

Just when I thought that stress and anxiety couldn’t possibly cause any more potential damage to my physical well being, I came across a post by Spine Universe that revealed one more danger of remaining overly stressed.

As it turns out, the tension that arises in your body as a result of stress can actually cause lasting physical harm and damage to the soft tissues and nerve endings in and around your neck and shoulders. It really does make sense as you think about it more. Try to remember, or pay attention to, how your body feels the next time that you are experiencing a lot of stress or anxiety. Chances are that your muscles are tight and contracted from nervous energy.

For example, you may find yourself clenching your jaw, which is something I know I am guilty of doing quite a bit when I’m stressed. Even if you don’t do this, you are probably tightening and contracting the muscles of your neck and shoulders in an intense manner. As you can imagine, this kind of behavior will often no doubt lead to aches and pains in the area, especially if you are someone who deals with high anxiety on a long term basis. Over time, the repetitive movement of straining and tightening your neck muscles as a reaction to stress can start to create some ling term consequences for your physical health.

Fortunately, chiropractic care has been scientifically proven to not only relieve aches and pains in the neck area of the body, but it has also been shown to actually relieve stress and decrease levels of anxiety overall in people who are prone to being anxious. This is due to the healing nature of regular chiropractic manipulations. Regular chiropractic adjustments work to correct any misalignments in the spinal column that may be causing blockages and interferences within the nervous system, which no doubt makes communication between the body and the brain limited and hindered, sometimes on a severe level. This may also cause inflammation in the surrounding joints and soft tissues of the body. When these misalignments are corrected using all natural methods, communication is restored to the body, and the entire body and mind can work together at their optimal function once again. This often decreased instances of pain, which of course leads to less stress as a result of any chronic pain that may be felt in the neck.
