Dr. David Higginbotham became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2022 when he began serving residents in the Webster area, where he continues doing the work he finds so rewarding.
“The thing I like most about being in the chiropractic field is helping patients without drugs or surgery,” he says. “I love building relationships with patients and their families.”
Dr. H, as his patients call him, is a native son who worked previously in Houston. He enjoys spending time with his wife, as well as golfing, hunting, and fishing.
He earned his doctorate from Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena.
Dr. H says it was natural for him to pursue a career helping others experience the holistic health benefits of chiropractic because “I’ve been seeing a chiropractor my entire life.”
Actually, it started when he was 6 years old. He and his brother climbed on the roof of their house when Dr. H decided to jump. He hurt his lower back. The family physician said to lay the boy out on a heating pad and “he’ll be fine.” Knowing her 6-year-old wasn’t going to be still on a heating pad for any length of time, Mrs. H took her son to the family chiropractor. “I entered the office dragging my right leg, unable to walk without assistance from my mother,” he recalls. “After a brief exam and chiropractic adjustment to my lower back and sacroiliac joints, I proceeded to get off the table and walk without dragging my leg. I thought that was wonderful because now I could play when I got home.”
As a professional, he has paid it forward many times. “After three decades of practice, one of my more memorable experiences was similar to the one when I was 6,” he said. “A patient had a similar condition to mine, presented the same symptoms, and after his first visit was able to return to work the next day with little to no symptoms. Chiropractic is not a quick fix, it’s a lifestyle that patients need to maintain their spinal health because you only have one spine.”
Dr. Thelma Champion D.C. attended and graduated Texas Chiropractic College in 1995. Dr. Champion knew chiropractic care was for her when working with her mentor where she learned that chiropractic is not only about treating people in pain, but also keeping them well and healthy. Her favorite thing about being a chiropractor is teaching people that true health comes from within and can be achieved naturally without drugs or surgery. She loves being in the chiropractic field to not only make a difference in patient’s lives but also teaching them how to have better health and optimum performance with chiropractic healthcare. Dr. Champion joined The Joint Chiropractic in March of 2021 and has enjoyed it ever since! In her spare time, she loves running, walking, and spending time with her friends and family. Dr. Thelma Champion has one daughter Elissa, a son named Hunter, and a Labrador named Thor. Dr. Champion also enjoys listening to country music and would love to meet George Strait, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash to listen and learn about their journey.
Dr. Erick Simpson became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2023, doing the rewarding work of helping people in the Houston area.
“The best thing about chiropractic is that it is a holistic and preventative practice,” he says. “Not only can adjustments and regular chiropractic care get you out of pain, but it can also prevent you from having pain. The second best thing about chiropractic is adjusting patients. It is hands-on and fun to do and even better when patients get off the table feeling great.”
Dr. Erick, as his patients call him, is originally from College Station. “My parents have been seeing chiropractors my whole life and eventually convinced me to go to chiropractic school.”
Dr. Simpson’s wife, Megan, is in dental school. The couple has a dog named Ryder. “He’s a border collie mix so he loves to herd us when it’s time to go outside,” he says. “If we leave the house you can bet that Ryder is coming with us.” The Simpsons enjoy a good brewery and a night of Netflix. He also plays softball and disc golf.
Dr. Simpson went to Texas A&M University where he earned a bachelor of science in agriculture leadership. He earned a Doctorate at Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena.
“I knew chiropractic was the choice for me because it is hands-on, and the first time I saw a manual adjustment I thought it was awesome,” he says. “I also love that I have one-on-one time with patients and can build rapport with them. I have seen people who could barely walk come into the clinic and after getting treatment jump off the table, ready to go on with their day.”
One thing that is always in Dr. Simpson’s refrigerator is a frozen pizza. “There is always a night where my wife and I don’t feel like cooking but also don’t want to go out to eat.”
If he could invite four famous guests to the ideal dinner party, Dr. Simpson would include reality TV star and podcast host Joe Rogan, former MLB player Randy Johnson, NFL linebacker Von Miller, and former NFL quarterback Peyton Manning.
When asked about an incredible memory, Dr. Simpson points to the experience of getting married. “That was an amazing day. It was a party all day with a small break for the ceremony.”
His favorite book is a baseball Hall of Fame book outlining every player and the complete history of the sport.
If he wrote an autobiography, the title would be What did I Do? “Whenever anyone calls my name that is the go-to answer.”
One of the best pieces of advice he ever received was “Consistency over intensity. You need intensity every once in a while, but if you are not consistent no habit will remain.”
Dr. Simpson’s most valuable advice for others is: “Movement is medicine, motion is lotion. The more we move in life the better we move and the better life we have. When you start to not move, that is when pain and dysfunction start.”
