Dr. David Higginbotham became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2022 when he began serving residents in the Webster area, where he continues doing the work he finds so rewarding.
“The thing I like most about being in the chiropractic field is helping patients without drugs or surgery,” he says. “I love building relationships with patients and their families.”
Dr. H, as his patients call him, is a native son who worked previously in Houston. He enjoys spending time with his wife, as well as golfing, hunting, and fishing.
He earned his doctorate from Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena.
Dr. H says it was natural for him to pursue a career helping others experience the holistic health benefits of chiropractic because “I’ve been seeing a chiropractor my entire life.”
Actually, it started when he was 6 years old. He and his brother climbed on the roof of their house when Dr. H decided to jump. He hurt his lower back. The family physician said to lay the boy out on a heating pad and “he’ll be fine.” Knowing her 6-year-old wasn’t going to be still on a heating pad for any length of time, Mrs. H took her son to the family chiropractor. “I entered the office dragging my right leg, unable to walk without assistance from my mother,” he recalls. “After a brief exam and chiropractic adjustment to my lower back and sacroiliac joints, I proceeded to get off the table and walk without dragging my leg. I thought that was wonderful because now I could play when I got home.”
As a professional, he has paid it forward many times. “After three decades of practice, one of my more memorable experiences was similar to the one when I was 6,” he said. “A patient had a similar condition to mine, presented the same symptoms, and after his first visit was able to return to work the next day with little to no symptoms. Chiropractic is not a quick fix, it’s a lifestyle that patients need to maintain their spinal health because you only have one spine.”
Dr. Thelma Champion D.C. attended and graduated Texas Chiropractic College in 1995. Dr. Champion knew chiropractic care was for her when working with her mentor where she learned that chiropractic is not only about treating people in pain, but also keeping them well and healthy. Her favorite thing about being a chiropractor is teaching people that true health comes from within and can be achieved naturally without drugs or surgery. She loves being in the chiropractic field to not only make a difference in patient’s lives but also teaching them how to have better health and optimum performance with chiropractic healthcare. Dr. Champion joined The Joint Chiropractic in March of 2021 and has enjoyed it ever since! In her spare time, she loves running, walking, and spending time with her friends and family. Dr. Thelma Champion has one daughter Elissa, a son named Hunter, and a Labrador named Thor. Dr. Champion also enjoys listening to country music and would love to meet George Strait, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash to listen and learn about their journey.
Dr. Kegan Lepretre joined The Joint Chiropractic family of local chiropractors in 2018. A graduate of Louisiana Tech with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, he received his doctorate of chiropractic from Texas Chiropractic College.
“The most gratifying thing about being in the chiropractic field is that I am able to help patients out of pain in a natural way,” he says. “I love being able to help in a hands-on way.”
In his spare time, Dr. Lepretre enjoys cooking and doing small projects around the house with his wife Bethany, their border collie Zoe, and basset hound mix Traeger.
“Chiropractic is the culmination of everything I wanted to do in order to best serve other people,” Dr. Lepretre says. “It’s a natural, hands-on method where the patient and I can set goals and see results.”
Dr. Lepretre has always worked in Houston, and he loves his current location. “We’re in the heart of one of Houston’s busiest areas,” he says. “It’s a great place to see as many people as possible and learn from new experiences.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Lepretre says the one thing he always has in his refrigerator is craft beer. “Treating patients can be fulfilling, but it can take a lot out of you,” he says. “It’s a delicious way to de-stress.”
If he could dine with anyone, Dr. Lepretre says he would like to bring together comedians from different mediums, music, stand-up, movies, and television: Dav Avidan, Jerry Seinfeld, Paul Rudd, and Andy Samberg. “Putting a smile on someone’s face is an amazing feeling, and some light-hearted comedy can almost always lift the spirits,” he says. “Each of these individuals has come from no-name positions in life and built themselves up to the stars that they are now. Not only would the conversation be inspiring, but I’m sure it would leave me in stitches, as well.”
One of the most interesting things that Dr. Lepretre has done took place when he took a mission trip to Guatemala. “It was my first opportunity to travel out of the country,” he says. “I got to meet some amazing people, and I was able to see some amazing views. It was an amazing opportunity to help some well-deserving children at an orphanage while also getting a chance to try new foods and visit black sand beaches.”
