5 Reasons to Take an Organized Outdoor Fitness Class

By Brandi Swieter

Exercise needs to be incorporated into people’s everyday lives. Between 30 and 60 minutes of exercise per day is recommended, depending on ultimate goals. An organized outdoor fitness class provides people with the opportunity to work out in a fun group setting. It often a better alternative to working out alone in front of the television screen. There are at least five reasons to take an organized outdoor fitness class that will have more and more people up and off their couches.

Fresh Air Benefits the Body

Fresh air is great for the body. Being outdoors in any capacity helps to ease stress and tension, as well as allow a person to clear their mind. Outdoor exercise combines the fresh air and natural surroundings with workouts, giving benefits in more ways than one.

Group Settings Provides Support and Reassurance

Some people try to follow along to workout videos at home. They may get to watch the people demonstrate, but the process often goes too fast to follow along well. There is also no one to ask questions to if there’s a problem with a portion of the routine. A group setting provides support and reassurance. Everyone works out together, and it’s easier to follow along with multiple people around you then just someone on the television. People struggling can also ask a group member or the instructor after class for some pointers.

Lower Cost Alternative to Gyms

Many gyms have a pretty high cost when it comes to use. Whether people work out alone at the gym or join a class, it’s going to cost a pretty penny. Outdoor classes are far less expensive, seeing as how the group uses common spaces, such as parks, where it doesn’t cost anything extra for the use of equipment or the facility. Many times, participants have to bring their own yoga mat and nothing else.

Natural Resistance Due to Wind

Working out on a windy day may not seem like a good idea at first, but it actually is. The wind provides a natural resistance to the workout that makes people work harder. It is far more beneficial than exercising indoors.

Increased Energy

It’s been found that exercising in an outdoor setting can increase energy. People tend to feel more refreshed, rejuvenated, and happy after getting in fitness time outside rather than inside. They also seem to report a feeling of satisfaction that they enjoyed the workout and it really got them burning calories.

Find some local organized outdoor fitness classes in your area and give one a try. You might be surprised at how well you enjoy it.
