Make Your Short Workouts Be Productive
By Tom Herrin
Once you get into exercising, it can be addictive. You can end up spending a lot of time involved in working out, especially as you see progress. The problem can be that it can begin to take more and more time away from things such as work and family. If you want to manage your time better and still participate in working out, you may need to find something that can help you to save time as you exercise. One way is to participate in mini workouts. They can be very effective by working one area of the body at a time. You just need to be sure to focus on those areas that are most important and only work for a few minutes at a time.
Cardio Is Critical
Building endurance is always important and a critical part of any fitness program. For a quick cardio workout that you can do in 15 minutes or less, there are a few basics. Jogging in place can be a good way to start -- and maybe finish. Burpees are another that is useful. These are done by putting the hands on the floor and lunging with the feet back out into a plank. Then return to the start. Another one that helps is some form of a jumping jack. In reality, anything that can get you moving and keep you moving will be helpful.
Work the Chest
Building a strong chest is good at any time. I always liked to begin and end my workout with a few pushups. If you use the correct form, you will see results fast. I like to use dumbbells because I feel they make me work more. Butterflies work well to build pectoral muscles. Along with pushups, they can help improve your posture, and you may find that you are holding yourself more correctly. Adding some kind of chest flies can round out this short session.
Remember the Back
You should always be careful not to injure the back, so you don't want to use too much weight or do too much stress. Various kinds of rowing will be a great way to strengthen the back. Go for the variety and see good results. Deadlifts can accomplish quite a bit, but form is important. Be sure to follow the right procedures and don't get in too much of a hurry. With good planning, you will be able to design some mini workouts that fit you.
