3 Tips for Staying Healthy at Work

Trying to stay healthy while putting in long hours can seriously be tough. How are you supposed to fit in workouts or plan healthy meals if you’re virtually chained to your desk? Though difficult, staying healthy at work is super important for your overall health and wellbeing. After all, considering we spend most of our time at the office, learning how to stay healthy while working can make all the difference. Here are 3 tips for keeping yourself in tip top shape while putting in the hours.

Stand up. It sounds too simple, but simply standing at work instead of sitting can make a huge difference in your health. You probably won’t want to spend all day standing, but alternating between sitting and standing increases your blood flow and increases productivity. Less sitting throughout the day is also thought to lower your risk of high blood pressure and diabetes. The best part about this little tip: it’s really easy! If you need a keyboard, try propping it up higher so it’s easier on your back.

Prepare your food at home. Fast food is one of the very worst kinds of food for your body. Instead of getting yourself stuck in a bind where the only food available is in the form of fast or convenience foods, plan your meals at home and carry a lunch sack. This way, you won’t be tempted to buy quick calorie packed foods. Make sure to plan your lunch, and allow for snacking as well. This can easily replace unhealthy lunches with a healthy alternative, and it can save you a lot of money in the long run too.

Use your break. During your break, moving may be the last thing that you feel like doing, but it can actually keep you supplied with more energy. Instead of sitting during your break, take a brisk walk outside or around the office. Fit in a quick stretching routine. Even five quick jumping jacks can be beneficial. The small bit of exercise will burn a few calories, and it can also help to increase blood supply which will give you more energy to keep going.

Since we, as Americans, spend so much time at work, figuring out ways to stay healthy while there can be a big difference in staying fit and healthy. Don’t over think it. Keep it simple, and find little ways to keep your caloric intake down, your blood moving, and your health in good shape.
