An Easy Guide for Healthy Lunches

If you are looking to improve your health, some small changes can make a big difference. One easy change that you can make is to pack yourself a healthy lunch. While this is a great idea, it can be hard to accomplish on a daily basis. To get a healthy start on your lunches, take a look at these fool proof methods for packing and eating a healthy lunch.

Look for Color

Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean to pack your lunch with M&M’s or Skittles. A healthy diet is full of color. If you look in your lunch box, and it’s all beige, it’s probably not healthy enough. Try adding color with some fruit and vegetables. Adding some green (lettuce, peppers, etc), red (tomato, radish, etc), and even purple (onion, eggplant, etc) to your lunch box can help you make sure it’s healthy just from a simple glance.

Stay Away From Convenience

You might be tempted to pack “healthy” convenience food options to make your life easier. In truth, however, if it’s convenience, it’s probably not as healthy as you think. Convenience foods are typically full of calories, and even when they’re low calorie, they are full of sodium. If you want a healthy lunch, stay towards fresh and steer clear of anything marked “fast” or “convenient”.

Prepare Ahead

We all want our mornings to look like they do in the movies. Calm and relaxed with everyone enjoying breakfast as the sun pours through the window. Unfortunately, at least in my house, the mornings look a little more like the hectic scene from Home Alone. If this sounds  little more like your typical morning, try packing your lunch the night before. Being prepared ahead of time can keep you from reaching for the unhealthy convenience foods. Make your lunch, set it in the refrigerator, and you’re ready to go without any effort.

Keep Healthy Snacks

Since the inevitable is bound to happen, and you’re going to forget your healthy lunch at some point, make sure you have plenty of healthy snacks in the office. Nuts, fruits, veggies, and cheese are all great options for everyday snacks. This way, no matter what is in your lunch box, you’ll have some healthy food at your disposal.

Staying healthy is tough, but with some minor changes and some attention to detail, you can put your body and health first. Use these tips to provide yourself with a healthy lunch, a fit body, and a healthier life overall.
