It's crazy to think that changing your diet with something so small can make a big difference but, it certainly can change your life in amazing ways.
High In Nutrients and Fiber
Whole grains contain several different nutrients. Some of those include, fiber, B vitamins such as niacin, thiamine, and folate, minerals such as zinc, iron, magnesium, and manganese, protein, antioxidants such as phytic acid, lignans, ferulic acid, and sulfur compounds, as well as plant compounds such as polyphenols, stanols, and sterols, which help play a role in preventing diseases. The exact amount of these nutrients may change based on the type of grain, but they are extremely important in your regular diet.
Lower Risk of Heart Disease, Strokes, and Type 2 Diabetes
Whole grains are a heart healthy food and heart healthy foods have been known to decrease the risk of heart problems such as heart disease and strokes. Whole grains have also been known to decrease the risk of type 2 diabetes. Not only is it heart healthy, it is also rich in fiber and magnesium which helps your body metabolize carbs and decrease the risk of obesity. Because the risk of obesity is decreased, so is the risk of type 2 diabetes. The two are often linked.
Supports Digestion and Reduces Inflammation
The fiber in whole grains has been known to help with digestion. Not only does the fiber help with bowel movements, it also can act as prebiotics which basically helps out the good bacteria that lives in your gut, improving digestion.
