3 Simple Tips to Improve Your Mornings
By Donna Stark
Does the sound of your spouse's or coworker's voice irritate you in the morning? Is it hard to face the day with a smile? Do you try to avoid others until the afternoon? Not everyone is a morning person, but if you want to improve the way you feel when you roll out of bed, keep reading. Your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic have some suggestions that may be able to help ... even if you are one of the biggest night owls out there.
Follow a Consistent Bedtime Routine
Before you can even begin to improve your mood, productivity, and desire to face the day, you need to make sure you are getting the recommended amount of sleep each night. And one of the easiest ways to do that is to be consistent with your bedtime routine. Try to fall asleep and wake up at the same time every day. If consistency is hard for you, consider making the following changes.
- Turn all electronic devices off at least an hour before you plan to go to sleep
- Avoid consuming heavy meals, caffeine, and alcohol later in the evening
- Engage in a relaxing hobby or other activity right before bed
Enjoy the Morning Sun
If possible, let the sun shine down on you as soon as you wake up in the morning. Sunshine will help regulate your natural circadian rhythm, cue your body to get moving, and boost your energy level. Grab your cup of joe and sit outside on your porch, take a quick walk down the street, or create your daily to-do list while sitting next to a window. You won't believe the difference it can make!
Eat Breakfast
Eating breakfast every morning will provide the fuel your body needs to make it through the day, but not just any breakfast will do. The first meal of the day should be nutrient-rich and contain some form of protein. If your time is limited in the morning, throw some fruits and vegetables into your blender for a smoothie, toss some overnight oats in the refrigerator the night before, or make some homemade breakfast burritos over the weekend and store them in the freezer for a quick meal on the go.
The Best Mornings Are Yet to Come
In addition to improving the start of your days, you will also be able to improve so many other aspects of your life by following the simple tips above. So, what do you think? Are you ready to embrace your mornings now? Give it a try and see how well it goes!
