Common Toxins to Keep Out of Your House
Chiropractic care isn’t just about maintaining good spine health; it’s also about helping you to lead a healthier lifestyle. So, chiropractors know more than just about your spine, they can also suggest lifestyle changes that can make you and your family a lot healthier. For example, you can avoid some of the most common cancers just through a healthy diet and exercise, but you can also make your home a healthier environment in which to live by following these suggestions.
What Cleaners Do You Use?
Chances are that you have toxic cleaning products in your home right now. This increases the risk of some types of cancer, especially breast cancer. People can absorb as much as five pounds of toxins through their skin each year, which is a good reason to switch to more natural cleaners. Vinegar, baking soda and thyme oil are all great things to use instead of toxic chemicals!
Canned Foods
Did you know that the lining used inside of cans that hold food are high in a chemical called Bisphenol A, or BPA? This is something that is commonly used in the manufacture of cans, plastics and resins. In, you may notice that a lot of products, including many baby products, now declare themselves to be “BPA free”. The best strategy to employ here is to avoid canned foods when you can, but if you must use them then use them in conjunction with things such as vinegar, wine, yogurt, yeast bread and cheese to help break down the deposits of this toxin.
Go Organic
You have to be careful and look for certified organic food here, as labeling can be a bit confusing. But, certified organic food is great because it reduces your exposure to pesticides and in the case the meat, hormones. The foods you need make sure you go organic with, because these are the worst toxic offenders, are apples, strawberries, celery, peaches, spinach, bell pepper and fatty meats.
No Teflon
You should get rid of your non-stick skillet! Most non-stick pans have a chemical called PTFE in them, which can emit carcinogens when they are heated. Consider using cast iron, ceramic titanium, or porcelain enameled pans instead.
Makeup
Oh yes, even your makeup can be exposing you to harmful chemicals. A lot of ingredients used in personal care items such as makeup and lotions are not tested. So beware not only of what you put in your body, but on your skin too!
If you have any questions about products you should avoid for your health, don’t hesitate to consult your chiropractor. If they don’t know the answer, they can certainly point you in the right direction to get the facts!
