Three Fitness Habits That You Should Adopt
Losing weight is no easy task- it takes time, self-control, and an unwavering amount of motivation. However, keeping the weight off and adopting a healthy lifestyle change is a completely different story. There is no end goal, per se. It’s an ongoing path of dedication to better health and a better life. There are constant ups and downs and there is never one right answer to the question of how to get healthy and fit. You have to figure out what works specifically for you, which is an endeavor all in itself. However, this isn’t to say that you are on your own. A good support system with people who are committed to your well-being can make a world of difference. Furthermore, a few easy-to-follow tips can help you to smoothly make the transition from flabby to fit (and keep you there for good):
#1: Keep your expectations realistic.
You are probably anxious to see results as soon as possible when beginning your journey to health, but it takes time and patience. Start out slowly, so as not to overwhelm or injure yourself. Yoga guru and author of The 21-Day Yoga Body, Sadie Nardini says, “Make your fitness routine an organic part of your lifestyle. Create each day (or so) around something healthy you can fit in without having to make sweeping changes. Start naturally.” Try going for a short walk each morning before work or take an easy and relaxing yoga class in the evening. Then, when you feel up for it, work up to something a bit more intense, such as jogging or a cardio kick-boxing class.
#2: Get involved with your fitness.
It’s important to not get bored and stuck in a workout rut. If you feel as though your daily gym sessions are starting to feel monotonous and repetitive, break the cycle by joining a running or hiking club in your area. Find out what you love to do and then do it. You may realize that you have a special affinity for riding a bicycle or that you gain energy from swimming. Ideally, fitness should not feel like a chore to you. It should be something from which you gain inspiration and a desire to improve yourself over time.
#3: Find yourself a workout buddy.
Some of the best motivation comes in the form of other people. In order to keep your own motivation in check, try finding a friend who has similar fitness goals to your own and adopt them as your workout partner. They can help to keep you on track with accountability and ultimately help you to maintain your fitness regimen.
