Backbreaking Proposition: Save the Children!
By Sara Butler
You have a lot of responsibilities as a parent. Kids need to be nurtured as they grow in a variety of ways, one of which is helping them to create healthy habits. When it comes to their posture, there are several things you can do to help save their posture and instill healthy spine habits. Here are just a few of the ways you can do that!
See a Chiropractor
Children can see a chiropractor as soon as they exit the womb. Chiropractors are taught how to adjust even the smallest baby and making sure their spine is properly aligned is one of the most important things you can do for their overall health and wellness.
Their Backpack
When kids begin school, they need a backpack that fits them well and distributes whatever weight they need to carry sufficiently. Never overload a child’s backpack, either. It should never exceed 10 percent of their little body weight. Also make sure you pack the heaviest things as close to where the backpack will rest against their back and choose a backpack that has appropriate padding, too.
A Good Night’s Sleep
Getting a good night’s sleep is important for everyone, especially growing children. Providing them with a proper and supportive mattress is just as important for them as it is for you. It will help them to sleep better and support the natural curves of their spine in order to keep their spine healthy.
Set Up Their Room Right
In your child’s room or workspace, you need to make sure they have proper lighting. That way they won’t hunch forward at their desk or in their chair as they struggle to read in improper lighting. You also need to make sure the table and chair they sit in to do their homework or use the computer are the right height for them. This will ensure they don’t have to lean forward to use the keyboard or see the computer screen. Also, invest in a good chair for the whole family that is adjustable, so everyone can use it.
Be a Good Example
Good posture and a healthy lifestyle start at home, and it’s something you should show your child how to do. Be active together as a family, going for walks, hikes, or just playing around outside. Keep healthy snacks in the house and teach your child the importance of a healthy diet, too.
