3 Everyday Tips for Beating the Blues

We all get down from time to time. It’s natural and normal to go through ups and downs in life. When the downs start to outweigh the ups, however, you may have a case of the blues, or in other words, be a little depressed. If you want to fight off the blues in a natural way and keep your ups and downs a little more balanced, check out these 3 simple and everyday techniques for keeping your mental health under control.

Make Time For You

It can be tough to find time that is only yours, especially if you have a family. If you can, find even 5 minutes a day to spend totally alone. These 5 minutes can be at any point in the day. Getting ready, at lunch, a small break, or 5 minutes before bed. Those few minutes alone can help you quiet your mind and recharge your batteries.

Spend Time With Loved Ones

As important as alone time is, time with others is just as important. Find a few minutes a day to spend with people that you really love. You are forced to spend time with coworkers and acquaintances that you probably like well enough, but that is not the same as best friends or family. It doesn’t have to be long. Similar to the time spent alone, it can be a simple 5 minutes spent connecting with another human being. All in all, it’s only 10 minutes total spent totally alone and with a loved one, but that time will add up to a healthy  mind and body.

Work On a Hobby

So much of our time is spent on everyone else’s demands. Sure, we do things because they better our lives, but they are still because someone else makes us! School? You have to! Work? You have to in order to avoid homelessness, lack of clothing, and etc. Though these things are definitely good for us, they still are not technically “for us.” Take time everyday to do something that is completely and totally for you. Art, fitness, model airplanes...it doesn’t matter what. Find something that is yours, and do it everyday to keep your mind happy, challenged, and healthy.

Your mental health is important for your overall quality of life. If your mind is unsettled or unhappy, then you are not going to be living the best life possible. Use these tips everyday to improve your mental health and your quality of life.
