Include These Super Healthy Foods in Your Diet

By Sara Butler

If you have health goals you want to meet this year, then you need to think in terms of the foods you should be eating instead of the foods you shouldn't. Shifting perspective can open up a whole new world for you and put you in a much healthier mindset to boot. No matter how you're trying to revamp your diet, here are a few foods that should always be on your go-to list!

Leafy Greens

Leafy greens such as chard, dandelion greens, kale, and spinach are incredibly good for you. They're starch-free if you're trying to cut down on that aspect of your diet and full of important minerals and vitamins your body needs to maintain optimal health. You can find Vitamin A, Vitamin K, iron, and Vitamin C in abundance in any leafy green. Load them up on your plate or add them easily to your morning smoothie or salad.

Avocado

Avocados have a bit of a bad reputation because they're high in fat, but it's important to note that they're high in healthy monounsaturated fats. These fats help to increase the health of your cardiovascular system. Plus, avocados are full of fiber, which is good for your digestive system.

Don't say no to avocados -- instead, add them to your meals where you can!

Salmon

Salmon is the king of all fish because it's so high in omega-3 fatty acids. These fatty acids help to keep your arteries healthy and free from cholesterol build-up as well as help to improve your blood pressure. The American Heart Association thinks salmon is so good for you, they recommend you have salmon (or some other fatty fish) twice per week.

Olive Oil

People may be obsessed with coconut oil, but olive oil is a kitchen staple you should always have on hand. That's because it's full of healthy fats and has also been shown to reduce belly fat in people who eat it regularly. You can use olive oil in just about any recipe that calls for oil or as a topper for your salad and vegetables.

Berries

Many people tend to shy away from berries because fruit is high in natural sugars, but they shouldn't. The truth is that the natural sugars in fruit, when eaten in moderation, are good for your health. Plus, berries are full of polyphenols to help your body fight off chronic disease.

Remember, you are what you eat. If what you want to be is healthy, then work with the chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic to help you accomplish your goals!
