Cooking With Love
By Donna Stark
Cooking and love. I don't think you can really have one without the other. In fact, all of the quotes on Pinterest tell us that you need love to cook and you need to cook for those you love. "Happiness is cooking together," "The secret ingredient is always love," "Cooking is love made visible," and my favorite, "Nothing brings people together like good food." There really isn't any denying that food and love go hand in hand, that cooking for those you care for really is an act of the highest affections, and that an otherwise dead kitchen can be brought to life with food, laughter, and family, which is why you need to grab your loved ones today and start planning a cooking date for the very near future!
Cook With Your Family!
No matter how busy you are or how full your family's calendar is, it's time to round the troops and reconnect over a home-cooked meal. Here are some of the wonderful reasons why you should start cooking together as a family.
- Wake your kitchen - A kitchen is usually the hub of a home, so if it is ridiculously quiet, shut down, or out of commission, you need to wake it up! Fill the counters with ready to eat fruit, pull out those pots and pans, and drown the silence with plenty of conversation and laughter. Spend time with your family while creating the most magnificent, flavorful meals.
- Encourage your family - Get the motivation flowing in your home by encouraging everyone to get off the couch and help with the meal planning. It's always fun to share the responsibility of planning, shopping, and prepping your meals.
- Faster prepping - Divide and conquer! Having more hands in the kitchen is a great way to cut down on the prep time for your meal. Let the youngest wash the produce, give your teenagers the job to dice, mince, and chop, and save the taste-testing for the adults!
- Easy family-date night - Forget the 45 minute wait at your favorite restaurant and the long lines at the movie theater by spending your precious time with family at home instead! Cooking together can be great fun and more entertaining than any movie, so turn the music on, get ready to laugh, and make some awesome memories!
- Know what you are eating - Cooking at home with your family gives you absolute control over what ingredients are being used so you don't have to wonder if your meal is actually healthy or not. Choose recipes with nutrient-dense ingredients, heart-healthy fats, and lean proteins so your family can receive the best nutrition possible.
