Self-Care During the Fall Season
By Donna Stark
The days are getting shorter, the landscape has new colors, and the smell of pumpkin spice permeates the air. A lot of changes are occurring all around us and truthfully, there couldn't be a better time to take inventory of your life. Since this is the time of year when our activity levels drop, our food consumption increases, and our stress levels rise (hello ... the holidays are right around the corner), taking stock of your health is crucial! So how do you stay happy and healthy as we enter the last portion of the year? Here are some great suggestions!
Take Time for Yourself
The holidays will soon begin, and in the blink of an eye, you will find yourself kissing a stranger under a shower of confetti while welcoming in the New Year. You know you will be knee-deep in out-of-town guests, parties, and celebrations, so take the time now for yourself. Get in those long walks, meditate, join a new fitness class, or grab that book you have been meaning to read.
At-Home Workouts
Don't let the momentum you built up over the summer get pushed to the side now that the days are getting chillier. Sure, there is nothing like a warm bed on a cool morning, but once you start moving, your body will be just fine! If you don't like the temperature outside, think about ways you can bring your workout indoors.
Stay Hydrated
Just because it isn't blistering hot outside anymore, doesn't mean you don't need to stay as hydrated as you did during the summer. Water helps to flush out toxins, maintain body temperature, improve skin, and transport nutrients, so drink up! Keep a bottle of water next to you throughout the day!
Try Bone Broth
Nothing feels better on a cold day than drinking something warm and soothing, so go ahead and grab a hot drink. But consider grabbing some yummy bone broth too while you are at it! Bone broth boosts your immunity and helps to support joint and bone health. You can drink it plain or use it as a base for those delicious fall soups and stews!
Wash Your Hands
With cold and flu season bearing down on us soon, it couldn't be a more perfect time to start focusing on your healthy habits and washing your hands is one of the most important ones around! Keep them clean and away from your face as much as possible!
Healthy Fall
The start of a new season is always a good time to take inventory of your daily life and habits. They're a time of new beginnings and positive changes, so support your healthy lifestyle and be proactive with your overall wellness in the upcoming months!
