Fighting Cabin Fever With Indoor Activities

By Donna Stark

The air outside hurts your face. Instead of two layers of clothing, you are now on four. And except for your eyes, there isn't one inch of your body exposed to the elements. Needless to say, it is cold. In fact, it's really not fun anymore to even take a step outdoors. So you shut the door, adjust the heat in your home, and prepare to wait it out. But then what? Sure, it's hard to enjoy the outdoors when the temperatures drop so low, but what is there to do in your home? You haven't even begun day one and already, you are struggling with the fever. Cabin fever, that is.

Indoor Activities

Staying cooped up inside can be a challenge, especially if you are young-at-heart and active, but even if you aren't that type of person, boredom can still set in pretty quickly and those walls can feel as if they are closing in by the minute. Here is a list of suggestions on how you can stay busy in your home and have fun while doing so!

  • Treats and sweets - Don't just sit there watching cooking shows, get up and head to your pantry! Everyone likes a plate of homemade treats, so pull out your cookbooks, throw the flour in a bowl, beat those eggs, and whip up some fabulous desserts that will rival the skills of any chef on TV.
  • Game day - No, I'm not talking about football, I'm referring to all of those classic board games you have stashed in your closet! Maybe you have forgotten just how much fun they are, but once you pull them out and grab your family, those good times will come rushing back quicker than you can imagine!
  • Creativity overload - Whether you have a passion for crochet or just like to dabble with paints, it couldn't be a more perfect time to grab your crafting supplies and get to that special project you have been pushing to the side. It's time to get your creative juices flowing!
  • Books galore - It's easy to be overwhelmed with the craziness of life and as a result, those books we have been intending to read start to pile up. Being holed up in your home, though, is a great time to start tackling that pile of reading material, don't you think?

Beating Cabin Fever and Staying Sane in the Process

The winter months can be tough for many reasons, but there is a way to come out on top with your sanity intact! Don't let the cold temperatures steal your joy ... just bring your joy indoors and have fun spending quality time doing the things you love with the people you enjoy the most!
