Unique Fall Activities to Try

By Donna Stark

It's late August, which means in little to no time, your social media pages will be exploding with pictures of your loved ones out and about, enjoying all their favorite activities of the season. Photos of them picking apples, carving pumpkins, and walking through forests of color will fill your screen and may even entice you to head outdoors as well. But rather than choosing the very same activities everyone else is doing, why not branch out on your own? Here are some unique ways to experience the fall season that will definitely produce some one-of-a-kind pictures that you can post for others to see.

Plant a Garden

Summer isn't the only time to beautify your garden. With cooler temperatures and still-warm soil, fall is the perfect time to plant some of your favorite spring flowers. From lilies to daffodils to peonies to irises, your springtime garden counts on your efforts now, so get busy! The best time to plant bulbs and seeds is between September and November.

Head to the Beach

The beach? Yes, you read that right! Grab your family (and maybe a blanket or two) and head to the beach. Sure, it may be a bit chilly in September, but the crowds will be gone and nothing beats a walk along the ocean.

Get Decorating

If you don't buy mums, hay bales, and corn stalks at your local farmers market, do you even like fall? Pull out your seasonal decorations, buy some fresh fall flower baskets, grab a family of scarecrows, and get the entire family involved in the greatest decorating event ever!

Look for Geese

Want to get your children excited about nature? You can do this by introducing them to the migrating geese. Keep an eye on the skies for these amazing birds and make sure you have a few fun facts ready to share! Your kids will love it.

Enjoy a Harvest Dinner

Are you looking forward to Thanksgiving but don't want to wait until the end of November to enjoy your favorite fall flavors? Well, who said you have to? Invite some friends or family over and host a socially-distant picnic outside. You can call it a harvest dinner and it can include all your favorite foods. It's a perfect way to spend time with loved ones and to shorten the gap between now and Thanksgiving. Just be sure to plan it before it gets too cold outside!

Is Your Camera Ready?

It's time to begin taking those one-of-a-kind pictures so start planning! Fall is the perfect season to try new things, engage in unique activities, and enjoy the great outdoors! And who knows? You may even like one of your pictures so much, you can turn it into this year's holiday card!
