Healthy Bones for a Healthier Life
By Donna Stark
Our bodies go through a lot of changes during the aging process, but loss of strength in our bones and muscles is particularly dangerous. The risk of falling, osteoporosis, broken bones, and the many complications that come from those issues increases significantly as the years pass. You need to make sure you are doing everything you can to keep yourself and your loved ones healthy, and fortunately, there are some simple things you can do each day to increase your strength. Take a look.
Consume a Nutritious Diet
It's important to make sure you are getting the right nutrients from your diet. Calcium and Vitamin D are essential to bone health and protein is vital for muscles. The next time you are at the grocery store, choose wisely. Fill your cart with plenty of dairy products, almonds, kale, oranges, broccoli, lean proteins, eggs, lentils, oats, and beans.
Exercise Daily
You can't build strong bones and muscles if you don't exercise so make sure you are prioritizing physical activity. Keep your body moving with low-impact workouts, such as walking, dancing, swimming, biking, golfing, or yoga. Just remember to include some weight-bearing exercises into your fitness routine too! These types of exercises are great for slowing down the process of bone loss.
Head Outdoors
Remember how we said that Vitamin D is essential for optimal bone health and to include it in your diet? Well, there is another way to get your fill and it couldn't be more fun! Just head outdoors and spend some time in the sunshine. The more you expose yourself to the sun, the more Vitamin D your body will absorb. So, if you ever needed another reason to enjoy your gardening or your tennis game, here it is!
Get Your Sleep
We all know that sleep deprivation can affect the body in many different ways, but did you know it can affect how bones repair themselves? It's critical that you get the recommended amount of sleep each night so your body has the time to repair and heal itself. If you are having sleep troubles, ask your doctor or chiropractor for help. It's too important of an issue to ignore!
Healthy Bones for a Healthier Life
There are already enough challenges to face as we age, so don't add any more to the list. By incorporating these simple steps into your daily life, you can have a stronger and healthier body when you need it the most!
