Protein Can Come from Lots of Things

By Tom Herrin

Everyone knows the basics needed for good health.  As for foods, most people have been taught that fats, carbohydrates, and proteins were the primary components of meals.  There are certainly other nutrients, but these are what most people look for to achieve balance.  Beyond this initial information, there are all kinds of ways to modify a diet.  Every plan in the world is available.  One food that may be included in almost any diet to make it healthier is fish.  Eating it on a regular basis can do a lot for improving health.  It is common knowledge that in cultures in which people consume more fish, they generally experience better health.

It May Help Prevent Heart Disease and Stroke

More and more people take fish oil supplements for the health of their hearts.  This may be a fair substitute for eating fish, but including it in a diet is really the key.  In a study of more than 40,000 men who ate fish at least once per week, it was found that they had a 15 percent lower rate of heart disease.  It is thought that the fatty fish which contain omega-3 fatty acids are critical in this formula for prevention.

It Can Be a Good Source of Vitamin D

Apparently more than 40 percent of the population in the U. S. is deficient in Vitamin D.  One of the primary sources of this is the sun.  Most foods don't have much of a supply of this unless   they are fortified.  Fish is one of the best foods to eat that can provide it.  Eating it on a regular basis can help to fill this need, particularly if people are unable to spend much time in the sun.

It Can Taste Good

My family and I really enjoy fish.  Anytime we have the opportunity to eat if fresh, we take advantage of it.  If we can't get it fresh, we may settle for canned or frozen.  We like salmon or tuna.  We also enjoy having some kinds of fish broiled.  There are lots of things that may be done to create a great meal when serving fish.  It is generally a light food.  The benefits of eating it are countless.  See what you may find that appeals to you and try adding it more often.  It may do more for your health for less.
