How You Can Stay in Shape This Fall
By Sara Butler
Fall is rapidly approaching, but just because the weather is cooling off doesn’t mean you should be cooling off your workout routine. Fitness goals are a year-round endeavor, and a change in season shouldn't throw you off. Instead, embrace the change and keep on going. Here are some tips to help you stay fit this fall.
TV – A Workout Motivator
With fall comes the premieres of some of your favorite shows, so it can be enticing to just sit on your couch and catch up with your favorite characters. You can use the season premiere of your favorite television show as a motivation to help you to stay on track; all you have to do is make a deal with yourself.
You can watch every show you want as long as you use each commercial break as an opportunity to exercise. Try some pushups, do a plank, try some triceps dips from the chair or throw in some squats. There’s no reason you have to just sit there while you wait for the show to come back on. Make a goal to reach during the break, such as 100 pushups.
The Heat is Not On
One of the best things about the fall is the weather. It’s not too hot, it’s not too cold – it’s just right to get outside and get active without worrying about overheating. Go for a nice long walk or run and take in the scenery of the season.
Try Something New
Another great thing about the change in temperature is it presents an opportunity to try something new. Since you’ve been used to doing things outside all spring and summer, embrace this chance to try new indoor activities such as yoga or a group exercise class. Don’t look at the drop in temperatures as anything other than a great way to shake up your routine!
You Don’t Have to Plan
If there are other things you are interested in exploring, now is the time to do it! If you want to go out for a hike and enjoy the changing leaves or try out some new hobbies such as photography or geocaching, there is no time like the present! You can even get your garden prepped for the coming winter and spring now that the heat from the sun isn't as oppressive. As long as you keep moving it doesn’t matter what you choose to do, it doesn’t have to be all planned out!
