Strange Signs of Too Much Stress
By Sara Butler
Stress is a normal part of life – to a point. While some stress is natural, not finding an effective way to deal with it can creep up on you and manifest itself in some strange ways. Many people feel stress mentally, but once you’ve hit the tipping point and veered into the territory of “too much” you may notice some of these physical symptoms, too.
Your Skin Isn’t Healthy
During a period of stress, it’s not uncommon to wake up with your skin all broken out. That’s because the hormone your body releases as part of the stress response, cortisol, also makes your pores more prone to clogging up. Breakouts can be caused by other things such as weather or diet, but if you’re under a lot of stress and notice more zits than usual, it’s probably stress. And you need to find a healthy outlet for it.
You’re Tired All the Time
It’s relatively normal to feel exhausted after a busy day, but feeling tired all the time is not normal. In fact, it may mean you’re under too much stress. Being really tired for no discernable reason can be a sign of something called adrenal fatigue. This occurs when the adrenal glands that produce cortisol become overtaxed. This can make you feel tired when there’s no reason why you should be.
You Have the Shakes
Trembling of the hands is another sign that you may be under too much stress. So pay attention! If you’re trying to type on your computer or you reach to answer your phone and you notice trembling in your fingers, then it may be because of too much stress.
Feeling Sore and Achy
How you hold your body when you’re under a lot of stress can lead to soreness or achiness. Think about it – when you’re stressed, you may clench your jaw or hold your shoulders up. All that tension from stress can lead to headaches and muscle aches. Try to pay attention to how you’re holding your body throughout the day and take steps to physically relax when you notice you’re clenching or holding your muscles tight.
Stress may be a natural part of life, but it’s also something you need to pay attention to so it doesn’t become a problem that begins to impact your overall health. Find ways to de-stress!
