Are You Sabotaging Your Health?

By Sara Butler

For many, daily habits are so ingrained that people may not even realize that what they’re doing can have a negative impact on their health and wellness. You might be doing something seemingly innocent, such as scrolling through your phone for an hour -- or more -- and not making time to get outside for some fresh air and sunshine. Falling into routines can sometimes have a negative impact on your health. The key to breaking these habits is to realize what you’re doing wrong and endeavor to fix them. Here are the most common bad habits that may be working against you and your goal of better health and wellness.

Negative Talk

Think about this: Would you speak to your best friend like you speak to yourself? If the answer is no, then you need to think about the negative self-talk you might be guilty of. How you speak to yourself can have a big impact on your happiness and success, so tell yourself a little more often that you can do something. Try to interject positivity into your day where you can and always remember to speak kindly to yourself!

Social Media

Social media takes over the lives of many people on a daily basis, but it’s not exactly good for you. You can have positive interactions on social media, but it’s really easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself to other people. That can leave you feeling frustrated with yourself, sad, and even a bit isolated. Negative messages aside, the number of hours spent on social media could be used taking action on your part to move closer to health and wellness goals you may have.

Try to give yourself a time limit each day for how much time you spend on social media. When the time is up, shut them off and walk away.

Staying Inside

The weather may not always be perfect, but you should endeavor to get outside more! You probably spend most of your day inside for school or work, so when you’re not busy you should take the time to get some fresh air and soak in some sunshine to boost your Vitamin D. It can help to improve your mood and even help you sleep better at night.

Don't sabotage your health. Examine your habits and make positive changes.
