Get Chiropractic Before Holiday Travels
By Brandi Goodman
Many people spend their holidays traveling. Whether you plan on taking advantage of your child's winter break and actually go on vacation, or you have family to see for Christmas, traveling can be harsh on the body. You may experience some serious discomfort if you aren't careful. Get chiropractic care before holiday travels to help yourself prepare.
Pain Prevention
Planes, trains, and automobiles all have their way of causing discomfort. Sitting for long hours can easily cause your joints to lock up and your body to feel stiff. Seeing a chiropractor before you go on your holiday trip can help prepare your joints so they're less likely to feel so rigid. They'll be flexible and able to handle the long hours better. This can prevent pain that otherwise may have developed quickly.
Immune System Boost
The winter season brings on illness easily. Traveling and not getting enough sleep can cause the same struggles. A chiropractic adjustment can boost the immune system since joint restrictions or subluxations that may have been in the way will now be removed. The body's central nervous system will be able to function correctly and keep illness at bay. You never know how your body will react to travel, stress, no sleep, and even foods it's not used to. A healthy and well-functioning immune system can make a huge difference.
Preaching Posture
Your chiropractor will do more than perform an adjustment. You can also ask for recommendations to make your holiday travels easier on your body. A doctor of chiropractic will preach posture. You'll be advised to sit upright and avoid slouching during the ride, and in general. You may also be instructed to bring a lumbar support pillow or place something behind your lower back. It will help to keep you sitting up straight and prevent pain. A neck pillow for sleeping is also recommended so your neck won't be tilting forward as you nod off.
Advice on Activities
Guidance on the posture you want to maintain isn't all your chiropractor will provide. Advice on activities is also common. He or she may offer stretches that are best before a hike or nutritional counseling if you plan on dining at unfamiliar restaurants. Talk to your chiropractor about your plans so you can get the best advice.
Preparing for travels means more than making sure your bags are packed. Chiropractic should be part of your preparations so you can be sure your body is able to handle the trip. It will reduce your chances of developing pain and help you to rest easier.
