6 Chiropractic Solutions for Summer

By Brandi Goodman

There's still a good month left of summer weather, with the first official day of fall not arriving until September's third full week. With all the outdoor activities still left to do, and fun in the sun to be had, it's a good idea to keep some chiropractic solutions for summer in mind. They'll even hold up in the fall.

Stop Wearing Sandals

Too many people wear sandals in the warmer months. It may feel nice for a while, but it won't do your feet any favors in the long run. You need to stick with athletic shoes that offer support and help cushion the shock every time your foot hits the hard ground.

Start Drinking More Water

When you're sweating, hot, and feeling parched, water is going to help. You should start drinking more water on the days when you're outside. It will help to keep your body hydrated and feeling OK, compared to getting dehydrated and experiencing symptoms such as feeling fatigued and dizzy.

Do More Stretching More Often

You need to stretch before any activity. It will help keep your joints limber and better able to handle whatever physical activity you're about to do. It can also prevent injury. You should also stretch during and after to help with injury prevention and recovery.

Eat Whole Foods

Whole foods are necessary for good health. Eating raw fruits and veggies is beneficial because you get all the desired vitamins and nutrients. Many also keep you hydrated because they have high water content, such as watermelon, cucumber, lettuce, and strawberries.

Adjust Things to Your Height

Whether you're pushing a lawnmower, riding a bike, or using any sort of equipment or tool, you need to make sure it's adjusted to you. Leaning too far down or struggling to reach up can leave your back and shoulders aching. Everything you use should be adjusted to your height and requirements so you can be safe while they're in use.

Carry a Light Backpack

You may need to carry some belongings when you head out for a picnic, take a hike, or even head to the gym. Always make sure you carry a backpack that's lightweight and not overpacked. Use both straps over your shoulders and be sure the bag rests between your shoulder blades instead of hanging low on your back.

These summer solutions are ideal all year round, especially if you're spending time outdoors or trying physical activities. If you experience any discomfort or desire additional tips, you can always head to The Joint Chiropractic for an adjustment and advice from a doctor.
