3 Tips to Prevent Weight Gain This Holiday Season
By Virginia Laird
Each and every holiday season I, like many others across the nation, prepare myself for the inevitable weight gain that seems to routinely take place. As the holidays approach, there are more and more treats and sweets found in every place you may go. It can be a struggle to avoid partaking of these holiday favorites altogether. Many fitness gurus have devised plans and tips to help their clients avoid adding unwanted weight to their waistline. Some of these tips include:
- Attending a party when starving is a no-no
- Taste tests can pack on the pounds
- Make exercising daily a priority
Attending a Party When Starving is a No-No
Never ever go to a party when you feel like you could eat an entire turkey. This is setting yourself up for overeating, which can lead to weight gain. Weight loss specialists agree that it's wise to eat a light snack before arrival. Make sure to keep the snack healthy as there will be plenty of sweets and unhealthy snacks at the party.
Taste Tests Can Pack on the Pounds
While it may be tempting to taste whatever you cook, it is not the best thing to do. This is a sure way to add calories to your daily consumption without ever realizing what you did. Before you know it, you could have easily added a few hundred calories in taste tests alone. Many in the weight loss community suggest following your favorite recipes exactly, knowing the results are sure to be something scrumptious.
Make Exercising Daily a Priority
No matter how busy you may be, it is best to make some time to exercise. This can help work off some of the calories you are adding with all the luxurious holiday party foods. Exercising daily does not necessarily mean hours at the gym. Rather, it could mean a jog around your neighborhood or a brisk walk with friends. Fitness instructors recommend working out at least 30 minutes three to four times each week. No matter what your choice of exercise may be, make sure to prioritize it.
Beat the holiday pounds with these tips and you may find that you are able to enjoy your parties just a bit more without the worry of the weight gain. Happy Holidays!
