Summer is for Cycling
By Donna Stark
It seems that as the seasons change, so do our favorite exercises. And now that the warmer weather is finally here, it’s time to hit the road with one of those activities … bike riding. So many people enjoy feeling the warmth of the sun on their back while the cool wind hits their face, but that isn’t the only thing to look forward to when you head outdoors on those two wheels. It’s also a great way for people of all ages and abilities to fit in a workout and improve their health.
Benefits from Bike Riding
Exercise is critical for a healthy lifestyle and bike riding is a great option because it doesn’t place a lot of stress on your body. Let’s look at some of the reasons why cycling is a better choice for exercise over the others.
- Anyone, anywhere - Cycling can be enjoyed in so many different settings by people of all abilities … children, adults, beginners, elite athletes … parks, neighborhood trails, city streets, and competitions. Chances are you won’t have any trouble finding a spot to ride your bike!
- Healthy body - Cycling helps to improve heart health, maintain weight, and increase endurance. It is also easier on your joints than running or walking and since there is less impact on your hips, knees, and ankles, there is less chance of injury. It’s a perfect workout for those who are new to exercise, have arthritis, or are overweight.
- Stronger muscles - In addition to strengthening the major muscles in your core, thighs, and calves, cycling can also increase the strength in your arm muscles as well. It really is a full-body workout.
- Multi-purpose - There are so many different levels of cycling you can experience. It’s a great way to get from point A to point B, to enjoy a fun time with friends and family, or to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Plus, it will save you a ton on gas money if you use it as a form of transportation.
New Season, New Fitness Routine
It’s good to mix up your fitness routine a bit and change your exercises with the seasons. After all, it’s something we do with the flavors of coffee we enjoy, right? So why not do the same with your workouts? Whether you want to ride for pleasure, transportation, or better health, prevent boredom and stagnation from setting in and head outdoors for that amazing warmth on your back and some cool wind in your face!
