Researchers Endorse Chiropractic for Lower Back Pain
By Sandy Schroeder
New research in the Journal of the American Medical Association reports more support for chiropractic treatment of lower back pain.
Researchers analyzed studies of more than 1700 patients with lower back pain. The analysis found spinal adjustments reduced lower back pain and helped improve daily life. Patients said chiropractic treatment helped them walk faster, sleep better, and turn over in bed more easily.
Lower back pain is a frequent focus in today’s chiropractic clinics. Chiropractic treatment is now the “conservative first choice” for seeking pain relief, ahead of pain medications or surgery, according to the American Chiropractic Association.
Seeing Your Chiropractor
If you, or someone in your family, is dealing with lower back pain, The Joint Chiropractic clinic near you is well equipped to help. Licensed chiropractors are ready to help you find answers.
When you come in, your chiropractor will discuss your pain, its effect on your daily activities, and your health history.
You will learn how your spine works as the command center for your life. When the spine works well, so do you. If there are dysfunctions, pain may settle in, and movement may become more difficult.
Getting Results
A spinal adjustment may help to reduce lower back pain. You may find yourself moving better, and sleeping better. You may also have more energy, and feel more alert.
You and your chiropractor can put together a treatment program that continues to show progress.
Your chiropractor will monitor your spinal health, and suggest additional steps such as these to avoid future lower back pain.
Stop smoking – Smoking depletes oxygen in the spine, making lower back pain worse.
Lower stress levels – Stress flows through the whole body. When it lifts, pain may also drop.
Work fewer hours – Demanding too much of your body for too many hours can lead to back pain. Ask yourself if you are sitting too long in a fixed position. Does your workplace need an upgrade? Is your posture contributing to the problem?
Walk more – As your lower back pain lessens, you may increase walking with the approval of your chiropractor and doctor.
Lose weight – Your back will be pleased if you drop those extra pounds. Your whole body will benefit if you switch to more fruit, vegetables, lean meats or poultry and fish.
