Staying Well in the Upcoming Months
By Donna Stark
Fall has officially arrived, and with it comes the start of cold and flu season. But that's not all. It's also the start of seasonal temptations, and many of the ones we face on a daily basis aren't very good for us. The chillier temperatures, the shorter days, the hearty foods ... why, they're just enough to keep us indoors and pleasantly plump, isn't that right? It's hard to maintain optimal health and fitness when comfort is calling your name, but that doesn't mean you should give in because your immune system is counting on you to do the right thing. Here are some easy wellness tips to follow that will help you feel your best during the upcoming months.
Choose the Right Foods
As the weather gets colder and germs start popping up everywhere you go, you may want to reconsider the types of food you put on your plate. Your immune system needs to be in the best possible shape during this time and you can ensure that will be the case if you start eating immunity-boosting foods. Citrus, berries, garlic, ginger, spinach, broccoli, bone broth, sweet potatoes, and almonds are just a few examples of what you should be consuming.
Rise and Shine
Your natural circadian rhythm may be running amuck since the sun is setting earlier and the days are getting shorter, but don't worry! There is an easy fix. Maintaining a consistent sleep schedule so you can get at least seven hours of sleep each night is what you need to shoot for. That means you should go to bed and wake up at the same time each day, even on the weekends.
Take a Bath
There is nothing more relaxing than a hot bath when you are chilled to the bone, but did you know that baths are also great at reducing your arthritis pain? Simply toss in some Epsom salts, hop in, and soak your body to your heart's delight. You will feel like a different person by the time you are done.
Disinfect Regularly
Remember those germs from above? Well, they like to gather everywhere they can, so make sure you are disinfecting surface areas frequently. Phones, keyboards, remotes, light switches, doorknobs, stair rails, and bathroom fixtures are a few examples of the things you should focus on.
Staying Well in the Upcoming Months
With just a few simple changes to your daily routine and some extra willpower against the temptations trying to throw you off course, you can improve your overall well-being during the upcoming months and end the year feeling your best!
