Prevent Pain This Summer With These Tips

By Brandi Goodman

Summer is about fun and sun for many people. It can still bring pain, though, if you aren't being careful. With some tips in mind, you can prevent pain this summer and enjoy the sunshine without worries.

Apply Sunscreen Often

The sun's harmful rays will be beating down on your skin whenever you're outdoors. Apply sunscreen before you head out so you can protect yourself. You won't get burnt, which results in pain, and you can prevent skin discoloration and even cancer. Once isn't enough, though. You need to apply often throughout the day to keep the effects coming. As well, be sure to wear sunglasses so your eyes are also protected from the sun.

Bike Safely

A bike ride is a common summer pastime. You need to do it safely, however, if you want to avoid getting hurt. Make sure you at least wear a helmet in case of a fall. Knee and elbow pads are also ideal. Watch for traffic and stick to the side of the road and appropriate paths.

Stretch Before Activities

Physical activities are common during the summer months. You may spend your time riding bikes, swimming, playing volleyball, camping, and doing other outdoor things. You need to stretch before any of these activities so your joints are prepared for the movements you haven't been used to in a while. Doing so can prevent injuries.

Drink Lots of Water

Water is also necessary for joint health. If you want to keep your body hydrated and functioning well throughout the day, you need plenty of water. Sugary drinks and caffeine can lead to dehydration quickly. Water will replenish what you lose through sweating and keep your body free from inflammation and discomfort.

Sleep

It may be difficult to get to sleep when your room feels hot, the sun sets late, and it rises early. You still need to get adequate rest if you hope to maintain your health. Enough sleep every night will help you to feel awake and ready to take on the day. It will give you the energy and motivation you need to complete the activities you want. Start lacking in sleep and you may find yourself on the couch instead of outdoors. A lack of rest can lead to feelings of stress, illness, and pain much easier than if you get plenty of it.

Enjoy your summer pain-free by keeping these tips in mind. If you do experience some discomfort after activities, you can stop in at The Joint Chiropractic for an assessment. You may have a joint restriction that needs correction or require a release in tension. Your chiropractor could also recommend additional safety and health tips to make your summer more beneficial for your well-being.
