Things Healthy People Do Each Day
By Sara Butler
It can be tough to find the right balance between work, family, and health obligations each day. Still, life is all about finding balance and the beauty of each day is that it provides a fresh start. There are some healthy habits that set people up for success, so try incorporating a few into your morning routine to help the rest of your day feel a little more in control.
Vegetables at Breakfast
Breakfast is often called the most important meal of the day -- and that’s not hyperbole. It sets you and your metabolism up for the day. But what’s the right way to fuel it?
It might be best to walk away from that bowl of cereal or that slice of toast. To get a balanced breakfast you must combine fiber, protein, and fat -- as well as a variety of colors that can be found in vegetables. This will help keep you satisfied all morning long and make it less likely that you’ll reach for unhealthy snacks later in the day. Remember, when in doubt simply add more vegetables!
Hydration
Many people start their day with a cup of coffee, but healthy people sneak in a little water before their first cup of joe. As your coffee (or tea) is brewing, try drinking a glass of water.
During the night, the body tends to get dehydrated, which makes proper hydration throughout the day so important. Starting your day off with a glass of water will help you keep your whole body healthy. Bring along a refillable water bottle to help you work in enough water throughout the day.
Exercise
Many people put off going to the gym until the evening, then skip it because they’re too tired to go. The best way to set yourself up for exercise success is to get your sweat on in the morning! You don’t have to go to that early morning boot camp class, but finding a way to work some movement into your morning is a good thing, even if it’s just to take your dog for a walk around the neighborhood. Shoot for 15 to 20 minutes of moderate activity first thing in the morning.
Making your health a priority each day is one way to ensure you’re doing your best to live a long and healthy life.
