Foods That Are Both Healthy and Flavorful
By Genevieve Cunningham
When many people think about healthy eating, they imagine the worst. They imagine that their diet has to be completely green or completely lacking of flavor. They think … boredom! Luckily, healthy eating doesn’t have to be disgusting. In fact, it can be incredibly delicious. You can have a diet that is bursting with both flavor and nutrients. But where do you begin? If you’re interested in eating a diet that is both healthy and tasty, take a look at these foods to add to your menu today.
Berries
Berries -- blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries -- are excellent additions to any menu. They’re packed with vitamins (Vitamin C, especially), fiber, and incredibly helpful antioxidants. They work well as a topping, a snack, or a breakfast add-on. And the best part … they’re delicious! Berries are full of mouthwatering juices that create an array of textures and flavors in your mouth. By adding these to your menu, you can’t possibly go wrong.
Melons
Melons are a great food to break out in the spring and summer. Something about them just screams warmth and sunshine. Whether you choose a watermelon, cantaloupe, or maybe honeydew, melons are packed with flavor. The riper, the better! And of course, they’re also incredibly healthy. Though they will give you a bit of natural sugar, they’ll also give you a blast of fiber, Vitamin C, and tons of water. Stock your refrigerator with these delicious round goodies, and you’ll have healthy snacks all season long.
Onions
We’ve mainly focused on sweets, but there are other kinds of flavor to keep in your diet. Onions are chock-full of flavor, even if it’s a hotter, sharper taste. Onions come in a variety of colors and flavors -- white, yellow, green, and purple being the most popular. They can be added to salads, main dishes, or eaten raw. Onions are powerful natural antibiotics, making them a good choice for a healthy immune system. Eat them year round for extra protection and a healthier body.
A healthy diet can be fun and flavorful. It definitely doesn’t have to be boring or bland. Just choose wisely and don't be afraid to get creative. Use these foods as a jumping off point, and you’ll have a kitchen full of flavor and health before you know it.
