What Should You Wear to See a Chiropractor?

By Lana Bandoim

Your parents taught you to wear clean clothes and underwear before seeing a doctor. Although this is still good advice for adults, you have to take extra steps when you visit a chiropractor. During a chiropractic appointment, you may have to lie down on a padded table, so your clothes have to be comfortable.

Wear Something Comfortable

When you visit a chiropractor for an adjustment, your clothes should not restrict movement. You need to be able to lie down in them and move easily. Loose clothing makes this simpler. You can wear comfortable running shorts, yoga pants or leggings with a loose top or shirt.

Leave the Tie at Home

Some patients feel that they have to dress up to see a chiropractor. However, a suit and tie will restrict your movements and make the chiropractic adjustments more difficult. Although you want to make a good impression, it is not necessary to wear a formal outfit. Your chiropractor does not expect you to wear a tie. Informal is the way to go.

Avoid Skirts or Dresses

Some women avoid wearing skirts or dresses when they visit the chiropractor. It is easier to move in shorts and pants. In addition, some skirt and dress fabrics wrinkle quickly during an adjustment.

Avoid Layers

Bulky layers of sweaters make it harder for a chiropractor to do an adjustment. Even if it is cold outside, you want to be able to remove extra shirts or sweaters during the appointment. Also, avoid wearing thick materials that make it harder to move your arms or legs.

Leave the Jewelry at Home

Bracelets and necklaces can get tangled in your clothes during an adjustment. They can make it harder for a chiropractor to manipulate parts of your body. You can remove jewelry before an appointment, but it is better to leave it at home. You reduce the risk of leaving behind your favorite bracelet and trying to explain to your grandmother why you lost a family heirloom.

Forget the Heels

The chiropractor’s office is not the right place to show off your new heels. You do not want to struggle to hop on the padded table in uncomfortable shoes. Sneakers or running shoes are a better choice.

You want to wear comfortable clothes if you plan to visit The Joint. You do not need to schedule an appointment ahead of time or worry about insurance hassles. You will get personalized and affordable care from the chiropractors at The Joint.
