Outdoor Exercise that Boosts Your Workouts

By Brandi Goodman

Settling on the same workout routine may work well for the time being, but it won't suffice forever. Eventually, your muscles will memorize the way you've been doing things and need a change of pace to help get them working efficiently again. In a city that stays warm most of the year, it's easy to get in some outdoor exercise that can help beat the plateau.

Go for a Jog

Lots of people walk around the neighborhood or through the path at the park to get in their exercise for the day. Going for a jog can be a good way to break up the slow pace and get the muscles working overtime to see results. You don't have to be a runner to do this. A simple jog where you go at a pace that is comfortable is sufficient. Take walking breaks where needed to recover before jogging once again.

Rollerblade

Rollerblading isn't as common of a pastime as it once was. However, anyone can grab a pair of skates and work up a sweat outdoors. Your legs will get a great workout doing this activity, as will your core from having to maintain balance. It might take some time to get used to rollerblading, so start out in your driveway before heading any farther.

Kayaking

Taking a kayak up the river may seem like a peaceful journey, but it actually improves your fitness. Your arms get a great workout when you kayak since you have to spend the duration rowing. Your abs get in a workout as well as you turn from one side to the other moving the oar through the water to propel yourself toward your destination.

Hiking

Going for a hike is possible in any weather. With the right gear on, you'll be able to make your way from the bottom of the hill to the highest point without a problem. It will be a huge workout to get there, though. The climb works your full body, particularly your legs. It could leave you sweating and out of breath, so it's important to stop for breaks often and stay hydrated. Carrying your supplies on your back will give it an even bigger effect.

Outdoor exercise can help change up your routine and get your muscles working well once again. Try out one or more of these options and increase your capacity for fitness. A trip to The Joint Chiropractic before and after your workout may be advised if you need to ensure your body is in optimal shape to exercise.
