How to Put Life Back Together Better
By Sandy Schroeder
If you are beginning to tire of your daily routine with all of its hassle and demands, it may be time for some changes. Harvard Health recommends taking positive steps to put everything on a new course. If you can relate, here are some ways to get started.
Map Out a New Routine
Take a look at these potential changes to your routine.
Start with your daily schedule - See what you can do to upgrade your activities and streamline your schedule. Make it fit you perfectly.
Stay realistic - Consider what you are doing now and shift things around to fit you and your family.
Mix things up - Add some new foods to your menu and try some new fitness routines
Rethink Your Exercises
Maybe these exercises will work for you.
Get off the treadmill - Get outdoors for walks or runs and consider new bikes for the whole family
Start stretching more - If you are still sitting a lot every day, start building in 10-minute stretches in the morning and the afternoon
Insist on 30-minutes a day - Take your pick, but make sure you are walking, running or working out for at least 30 minutes every day
Make time to be outdoors - Sit on your patio, walk to the park, work in your garden or bike around the block.
Try to Cook More
Maybe these options in the kitchen will work.
Consider how much you order out - Then cut it in half with some new home cooked recipes. Start with a trip to the farmers market or the fresh fish counter and then spend some time with your kids fixing dinner
Take a good look at your pantry - If you see a lot of cookies, chips and pastries, restock with nuts, fresh veggies, waters, sugar-free juices and teas. Add avocados, tuna, salmon, black beans, and peppers.
Reconnect In New Ways
Keep these ideas in mind.
Reach out to friends and family - Plan some outdoor activities like camping, biking or hiking, and generate some new plans with calls, cards, and online talks
Read widely and look for new interests - Use spare time to pursue issues or topics that interest you. Then follow up with online meetings or library research
Mellow Out Every Day
Here are some ways to relax.
Make room for quiet times - Choose ways to lower stress with meditation, breathing exercises or individual hobbies. Use those times to calm down and relax, letting go of all of the commotion
Start journaling or sketching - Keep a daily journal or take a little time to write down random thoughts that inspire you.
Whatever you do, keep looking for better ideas. You and your family deserve the best.
