Keep Workouts Short and Have More Success
By Tom Herrin
The notion that you have to go all out in order to do something right is right and wrong at the same time. We all know we should do everything we can to make the most of our commitments. On the other hand, if we become too involved in an activity, it could cut into our work and our family time. An exercise program is no different. Many of us get into it and see pretty good results in a short period of time. We get a little addicted to it and end up spending far too much time doing so. If we plan a little better, we can do mini workouts several times per day and see about the same results. These workouts should only last 10 or 15 minutes each, but they can get the job done.
Remember to Do Cardio
If you don't have time to get on the track, you can still make progress with the heart and respiratory system by jogging in place. As you do, you can add other movements with the arms. The more you move, the better it is. Lunges are another good way to build cardio. You simply need to think about doing things that increase the heart rate at a steady pace. You can adapt many activities to do this.
Build the Chest
The chest is generally powerful. I like to focus on toning the chest by starting and ending my workout with pushups. It can help to improve posture and appearance. Some type of bench press helps if you can manage it. Another good one is chest blues or butterflies done with some kind of dumbbell. Even lighter weight dumbbells will work if you do enough reps.
Improve the Back Muscles
You obviously never want to do any heavy lifting with the back. Some of the best exercises here are various kinds of rowing. This may be done with bent-over moves or standard rowing. Also, some use deadlifts, but you must take certain care to avoid injury with this. It would be far better to use lighter weights with higher reps. The best choice may be to use bands. They are much easier to carry around and are not as likely to create stress on the back. With bands, you can be as creative as you want.
