Easing Neck Pain with Advice from the Chiropractor

By Brandi Goodman

Neck pain is a common occurrence for many people. Looking down at phones and other devices can lead to tech neck, stress can set in, an incorrect sleeping position can cause harm, and many other dangers may help to develop a kink in the neck. Following advice from a chiropractor should help to ease this pain and offer insight into preventative measures to avoid discomfort in the future.

Improve Your Posture

Poor posture can have a lot to do with the soreness felt in the neck. Instead of slouching and letting the neck fall toward the chest, it is important to sit up straight with the head facing forward. Improving your posture can go a long way toward improving the constant neck pain you may experience.

Change the Way You Sleep

An old mattress, sunken pillow, or improper sleeping position can all cause you to wake up with a serious stiff neck. Changing the way you sleep can provide a better night's rest that doesn't lead to a morning of neck pain. It might be time to consider a new mattress if it's been more than five or six years since purchasing it. Sleeping on the side or back is typically best for those who experience discomfort. The right pillow can also make serious sleeping differences. A rounded pillow with an extra support for the neck is the most beneficial for back sleepers in particular.

Reduce Stress  Levels

It may be easier said than done, but working toward reducing levels of stress can make tremendous improvements in the way your body feels overall. The pain in your neck may be nullified if you can pinpoint the stress in your life and work on ways to eliminate it. Keeping a stress journal, exercising more, sharing your stresses with a loved one, or even taking a simple walk to clear the mind are all possibilities.

Get More Exercise

A strong body is less prone to pain. Getting enough exercise day-to-day can help to keep neck pain and other problems at bay. It may even help to reduce some tension that is felt and alleviate symptoms, such as stiffness and headaches. Most chiropractors can give you a list of ideal exercises to perform if you happen to be in pain at a particular time. Visiting one and receiving recommendations may be best.

A visit to the chiropractor is in order when you're looking to relieve neck pain that won't seem to go away. Head to The Joint Chiropractic to speak with a doctor about what is causing your discomfort. You can walk in anytime during open hours, which includes weekends.
